Hello, my name is Lauren Young (@LaurenYoungDrums). I first started being interested in drums when I signed up in my grade school band because I forgot my strings permission slip on the last day to sign up. Although my drumming path started off obscure, my passion for drumming and my love for serving others through music is extremely focused and I plan on doing it for a long time.
My favorite experiences behind the kit are mostly from performing live. It is so fun being able to share the energy and love of music with an energized crowd. The studio work I have done has been enjoyable in its own way but nothing is as fulfilling as sharing an evening with a great crowd. I love high energy, rocking music, and great venues! And being able to be on stage with like-minded musicians who live, work, and perform with enthusiasm is always a blessing.
Some great recent experiences were performing with three different bands at Arizona Bike Week at West World in Scottsdale as well as performing with multiple groups at Alice Cooper’s CoopStock fundraising festival in Mesa and playing on another fun outside stage in the city of Goodyear’s baseball park. Some other stages I have played include CCV Scottsdale, Highlands Church, Desert Springs Bible Church, and Genesis church. I am grateful for every named and unnamed experience on stage along the way.
In 2023, I was honored to be selected as a winner of the Moises Mini-Contest. Used by professionals, recreational players and students, the advanced moises.ai app is an easy-to-use yet powerful tool for modern musicians. Moises was chosen by Google as the Best App for Personal Growth of 2021.
In 2022, I was honored to receive the Joe Hibbs Memorial Award presented by The Sessions. The award is presented through the Hit Like A Girl international contest to continue Joe Hibbs values of modern drum set performance. Joe valued dedication, hard work, deep passion, and endless commitment. It was truly an honor to receive the award last year.
Being named a Finalist as well as receiving additional recognition each of the two years I entered the Hit Like A Girl international contest has been an honor.
I have been blessed to be able to serve at Midwest Food Bank, Feed My Starving Children and Operation Christmas Child.
Over the last year it has been so rewarding to be able to have met and be encouraged by drummers I look up to including Glen Sobel, Jen Ledger, Dom Famularo, Narada Walden, Gregg Bissonette, and more. The camaraderie and kindness among other drummers (amateur, professional, and world class) has been a great joy over the last several years. Serving each other through sharing knowledge and experiences is special. I look forward to continuing to develop and progressing in music and life for many years to come.
Thank you for your being a part of this amazing journey to serve others.
